Low-E Storm Windows vs. Replacement Windows

Let’s take a look at why buying low-e storm windows is a better option than window replacements. Low-e windows:

  • Cost less than replacement windows.
  • Offer similar performance while preserving the historic beauty of your home.
  • Reduce drafts and keep heat in your home.
  • Reduce UV rays that fade color in wood or fabric over time.

Based on your home, there may be many other factors to consider before purchasing storm windows. To make it easier, we'll connect you with a specialist to provide guidance and cost estimates.*

Frequently Asked Questions

Replacing windows can be expensive. There are a number of factors to consider, especially if you own a historic home and replacement is not an option. Fortunately, there are alternatives that offer energy savings and improved comfort. Before you make a decision, consider the pros and cons offered by the U.S. Department of Energy: Update or Replace Windows

If you are a DIYer, here’s how to get started with the installation of low-e storm windows. First, determine the scope of your project. Next, gather either a budget quote or a detailed quote, which can be done in three easy steps:

  1. Which product is best for you? Is this an interior or exterior installation?
  2. Measure your existing windows. Next, choose your style (model), quantity, dimensions and color.
  3. Send QuantaPanel your window information for a product cost estimate.

Of course. If you have a larger home with many windows, it might make more sense to hire a professional. If you already have a contractor you are comfortable working with, talk to them about low-e storm window installation. If you need to find a contractor, QuantaPanel may be able to suggest one, based on the location of your property.

While architectural low-e storm windows are always less expensive than comparable window replacement, it can still be a sizable investment. Architectural low-e storm windows are custom produced to fit the windows on your home. This means it makes sense to purchase the quantity you need for your entire project in order to take advantage of manufacturing and shipping economies of scale.

Payment options include:

  • Cash, check or money order
  • Credit card payment
  • Short- and long-term financing options

To help pay for your project, Rhode Island Energy offers an instant rebate of $25 per window for Rhode Island customers who purchase ENERGY STAR® certified low-e storm windows. To qualify, storm windows should be made with low-e glass. To take advantage of this offer, contact our trusted vendor, QuantaPanel.
