Thermostat Program

Earn a $50 instant incentive and a $20 annual incentive for every thermostat connected to a central air conditioner or central heat pump.  

After enrolling your qualified thermostat, Rhode Island Energy will automatically send a signal to your thermostat to precool your home by 2 degrees Fahrenheit before the peak event and increase your thermostat setting by 4 degrees Fahrenheit during the peak event. 

Peak events may occur during: 

• June - September 
• Weekdays and non-holidays 
• Between 3-8 p.m. 

There are typically 15 peak events every summer — each lasting up to three hours. 

You can opt out of a peak event at any time by changing your thermostat setting. If the program is not a good fit for you, we may disenroll you the following year. 

• A Wi-Fi thermostat can save up to $180 annually on your energy costs 
• Receive an instant incentive for signing up for ConnectedSolutions and an annual incentive every year you stay in the program 
• Reduce the burden on the electric grid, which helps keep energy costs down and lowers pollution

Where can I purchase a Wi-Fi thermostat?

Options for purchasing a supported Wi-Fi thermostat: 

• Your local hardware store 
• Online retailers, such as Amazon 
• The Rhode Island Energy Marketplace 
• During a Rhode Island Energy home energy assessment

Am I eligible if I don’t have a central air conditioner or central heat pump?

Unfortunately, you are not eligible for ConnectedSolutions if you don't have a central air conditioner or central heat pump.

A central air conditioner or heat pump cools most of a home or small business. A central heat pump is an all-in-one system that also heats the property. Central air conditioners and heat pumps are available as both ducted and ductless systems.

Window air conditioners and heating systems that do not cool are not eligible for the ConnectedSolutions program.

When will I receive my incentive for participating in ConnectedSolutions?

You will receive an instant $50 virtual prepaid MasterCard per thermostat after being accepted into the program. The process time is typically four to six weeks. At the end of the summer season, you will also receive a $20 virtual prepaid MasterCard . You will receive multiple emails to claim their virtual prepaid MasterCard. If the virtual MasterCard is not redeemed within 7 days, a physical MasterCard will be mailed to them at no cost.

You must be enrolled on or before August 15 to receive an incentive for the current summer season.

What if I choose to unenroll from the program?
