Whole Home Conversion
One of the most common questions we’re asked is “What does the natural gas conversion process involve, and how long does it take?” If you don’t have natural gas currently, we will need to bring the gas line to your home or business, and you will need to have a meter installed and order new heating equipment. The steps to conversion are:
- Determine whether gas is available in your neighborhood. Getting started is as simple as making a phone call. We’ll determine how far your home or business is from a gas line, analyze the availability of gas in your area, and provide you with an estimate.
- Select a plumber and choose the right equipment. It is important to work with qualified plumbing and heating professionals when converting to natural gas.
- Install and inspect new equipment. After Rhode Island Energy installs the whole home gas service line, your plumber will install your new natural gas equipment and schedule an inspection. Once your equipment passes inspection, we will install your meter.
- Have old equipment removed. Rhode Island Energy can refer you to a contractor who will remove your oil tank. It is very important that you do not have your old equipment removed until your new gas service line has been installed to avoid loss of service.
